USEFULL INFO

  • Poster printing:  WIZARDZ INC,  Shop 2, Kings Warehouse, V & A Waterfront

  • WIFI: eduroam available, ask your IT wizard. Otherwise WIFI code will be given on the day

  • Exchange or draw money: At the airport or at the Waterfront, the closest is on the first floor of the Food Market past Comedy central and the Craft Market on your way to Hidelbrant restaurant. Otherwise a) Nu Metro Cinemas, Incredible Connection basement parking b)Woolworths basement parking c) at the banks in the Market Square, Craft Market, Woolworths. Check Waterfront web site

 

TRIP

  • Do not leave your notebook or even a cable in your luggage

  • If you transit via Johannesburg, you will have to take your luggage through custom even tough it is labelled to go to Cape Town. You can drop your luggage in a special counter at the exit of the international exit on the far left on your way to national flight without having to queue again for national boarding.

  • There are safe ATM to get your rand at Johannesburg or Cape Town Airport or in the Waterfront

  • The rate from Airport to Waterfront for one person would be R250.00 one way. R 290 between 2200 and 0700

 

ON ARRIVAL

Take any of the shuttle services found at the exit of International flight on the right or in the main large arrival hall of national and international . You can book via email for instance  Centurion (info@centuriontours.co.za )  or City Hopper (bookings@citihopper.co.za) and ask for somebody to welcome you or go straight to their boot. Not expensive and reliable. Ask them to bring you the ATM or exchange boot.

 

CONFERENCE PUB

The Ferryman pub at the Waterfront or the Albert bar and deck upstairs restaurant banquet at Hildelbrant. We will meet there Monday after the Clivar Atllantic Meeting. We can meet there after the Ice breaker on Tuesday or on Thursday. From there we can go to any of the Waterfront restaurants or it at the Ferryman.

 

CONFERENCE VENUE: Just one story down the Hotel entrance. Map to be loaded. Check that space.

Parking for the Conference: A bit tricky but plenty of Sapece in front of the venue but not in the hotel. Entrance is from Porswood road around the hotel and down

 

Parking at UCT: ask the info center for a parking permit.

 

CONFERENCE BANQUET

25 Euros to be paid by registration or in Rand to Emlyn at registration.

Conference dinner: Hildebrande Ristorante at the Waterfront. 5 minute walking distance from the Breakwater Lodge. Upstairs is the Albert bar and deck where coktail and drink will be served before the dinner. Perfect hang out place before dinner. Booked under Preface Pirata.

 

LUNCH AT UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN

1230 Monday for the Atlantic pannel (booked under Atlantic Pannel)

1230 Thursday for the PREFACE ASSSEMBLY OR PREFACE WP6 WORKSHOP (booked under Preface)

Lunch is at the UCT club.

The UCT club where meals will be served is located in the Sport Center building and the entrance is opposite to the Sport Center entrance. It is just down the info center. It is at E11 in the upper campus map and to the left of the rugby field

 

FRIDAY 28 at UCT

 

A  blue Jammie Shuttle bus will pick you up outside the Breakwater Lodge on Portswood Road at 800. The Jammie Shuttle (JS) will drop you at the north end of University Avenue, Block D11 on the UCT map (JS logo in red circle). From there you walk down to the entrance of the James building to the Oceanography Dept or walk southwards along University Avenue to the John Day Building, Block C9 on the map.  Use Entrance 20 to the FitzPatrick Institute, and take the red stairs to the top (Level 3, 2 flights of stairs).  At the top of the stairs is the John Day Museum, venue for the day. There is a room for 20 and a bogger room for teh general assembly and coffee break.

 

Two room are booked at UCT: one in the seminar room of the Oceanography Dept, One in the Zoology Depratment, entrance 20, University Avenue, Upper Campus. This is where marine bologist of UCT  are hosted. Coffee and general assembly will be held in the Museum of the Zooloby Dept near the second room. A bus will drive you back at 1800 at  the Visitors’ Reception & Information Centre (VRIC) opposite the UCT Club (lunch venue), Block E10 on the map.. You can hang at the UCT club after lunch or even hold informal meeting there or ask the info center to call a taxi. 

 

 

ACCOMODATION:

There are many other hotel possibilities around the venue (Breakwater Lodge). Please consult such websites as booking.com or tripadvisor.com. Start with Breakwater Lodge and it should show accomodation nearby by order of distance and price.

 

For those attending the Clivar Atlantic panel meeting on Monday and PREFACE GA2015 and WP6 workshop on Friday, a cheaper alternative, All African House,  can be found here: http://www.accommodation.uct.ac.za/aah/about/welcome

on UCT campus.Be aware that you will then need to arrange for a taxi (relatively cheap) to and from the venue from Tue-Thu.
